Rob has carved a busy & respected career in teaching and playing music. His love of playing began at an early age, and he took his saxophone and piano skills to the Leeds College of Music. He studied saxophone with Al Wood and piano with Nikki Iles. Once qualified, Rob returned to his home town of Edinburgh in 1992. Since then he has furthered his studies in composition at Jewel & Esk college (specialising in film music) and gained advanced diploma in jazz from St. Andrew’s University.
Rob’s playing experience is wide and varied. He enjoys playing at some of Edinburgh’s jazz venues but can also be found in theatre pits or amongst other things, playing piano on The Royal Yacht Britannia.
Rob has over 25 years of teaching experience in Edinburgh Schools. He teaches students both individually and in small groups but also thrives on conducting and directing bands and ensembles. His positive and encouraging approach has inspired many children across Scotland, leading some to their own careers in music.
